Our Cambridge Favourite strawberry plants are propagated and grown by us in Norfolk. They are lifted fresh from the field during the dormant season and supplied as young bare-root runners, ready to establish in their new growing position.
The plants are certified under the Fruit Propagation Certification Scheme and inspected by the Animal and Plant Health Agency. This gives you confidence that you are receiving healthy, professionally produced planting stock directly from the grower.
Bare-root plants will not arrive in a pot or surrounded by compost. Depending on the time of year, they may have very little visible leaf growth. This is completely normal for a dormant strawberry plant.
Planting your strawberry plants
Plant in a sunny position with the crown—the point where the roots meet the leaves—level with the surface of the soil. Spread the roots out, firm the soil gently around them and water thoroughly after planting.
Allow approximately 45cm between plants and 75cm between rows. Plants can produce some fruit during their first season, with their strongest crops normally developing from the second year.
